Triumph or Disaster

New Moon | |May 19, 2023 | 28 Taurus 15’

If you could meet with triumph or disaster and treat those two imposters, just the same . . . —Rudyard Kipling

The New Moon is in the 28th degree of Taurus, 2nd sign of the zodiac, fixed or stable earth signifying “Through all change, I am the God who never changes.” —Ann Davies

Triumph and Disaster are the pairs of opposites that seem to beset us in human life. Recently, I heard it said that “There are not two powers—good and evil.” There is only one power, the will-to-good. The opposing power that contradicts unity has to be refuted by intelligence, though its appearance can be acknowledged and surrendered to the higher power.

This realization comes under the auspices of transiting Jupiter in Taurus square Pluto in Aquarius. Much of the belief of a separate evil force comes from the same source as belief in God: religion.

In astrology, religion is signified by Jupiter. Jupiter in Taurus suggests the role that money seems to play in religion. This is not limited to the erroneous belief that certain (but not all good people) prosper financially and that the poor are under punishment. Power is ruled by Pluto and so is evil. So, we have the rich and powerful. Some of us are afraid of the rich and powerful and equally afraid to be rich and powerful.

Recently, I had a lesson about money and power in the context of good and evil. The suspicion of evil came up when a $250 to $300 quote on an appliance repair turned into a $1,500 quote. I imagined I was being gouged, which I would have no way of confirming. That is vexing and confusing. What I could do, since I was essentially labeling them bad or evil, was to affirm that there is only one source of power and that it is good, and that if there was evil in the intention of the appliance repair business, it did not matter because I turned the whole situation over to my higher self which knows the inner workings of the whole issue.

I was not even the decision maker in this circumstance. For my part, I delivered my report to the decision maker without saying “I have bad news.” As tempted as I was to say it was bad news, I understood that this seemingly simple announcement would be setting up adverse energy. To deliver the news as bad news was to deliver it as split energy and promoting a belief in negativity.

The decision maker, who was also the one with financial responsibility, took the matter in stride, deciding against that expensive repair and opting to purchase new. That meant the disappearance of the potential “evil” of price gouging.

“One of the most illuminating things that mysticism has revealed, is that evil is not an ultimate reality. Evil is simply an experience of the soul on its journey toward Reality; it is not an entity but an experience of the soul on its journey to Reality; it is not an entity but an experience necessary to self-unfoldment; it is not a thing of itself but simply a misuse of power. It will disappear when we stop looking at, or believing in, it. We cannot stop believing in it as long as we indulge in it. – The Science of Mind.

PRACTICUM

Practice affirming that there is only one power. When something undesirable looms in your life that you are tempted to label bad or evil (meaning that it has destructive or disruptive potential) affirm, that it is all good—despite the appearance. Lay the burden for resolution on the power of good, which can see into the dark places.
