I, Maverick

Full Moon | October 9, 2022 | 16 Aries 33’

Chiron continues its year’s long trek through Aries, signifying that the Mars principle is up for healing or Maverick training. The asteroid Chiron was originally named Maverick. A maverick is one who is most oneself. The Maverick is not the same as a rebel, though may appear to be one. The Maverick is not rebelling against anything. The maverick doesn’t set herself apart. She just sets herself. What others are thinking or doing is of no concern to her. She is not trying to persuade others. She is not fighting for the right. She has the right. She carries herself that way. Head up, shoulders back, commanding respect, but not calling for it. The maverick is impervious, impenetrable by harm, and inviolate.

Chiron was called Maverick because of its erratic orbit. Chiron spends more time in Aries than in any other sign. Chiron entered Aries in 2018 and except for a brief foray into Taurus, will be in Aries until September 2026.

Seems to me, the time spent in Aries reflects the human need to heal ourselves of the discomfort of being the only one who is us. The ultimate healing is for us to be alone amongst all others without being lonely or immersed.

This full moon is an excellent opportunity to practice being alone and balanced with others—especially a significant other. The Sun is in Libra and the tone, signature, or summation of the chart is Libra, the Venus-ruled mental sign represented by the scales, the symbol of the zodiac which is a human artifact. It suggests that we are on our own when it comes to being able to live with each other in integrity.

We are not on our own. All things follow universal order. Saturn is exalted in Libra. We are responsible to meet the standard.

This chart features a fixed T-square between Saturn square Uranus with Uranus conjunct the North Node in Taurus. Saturn in Libra’s fifth might ask if one is too old for love and happiness, or simply unlovable because one might be too quirky or homely. One might similarly question one’s ability to be graced with enough money to live without tightness or encumbrance.

We have a mutable complex too. Neptune the dreamer opposite Mercury the planner, both square Mars in Gemini. We might worry that we are delusional to believe we can prosecute a search or an ambition toward what we really want. “Don’t you go dreaming no impossible dream,” we might be tempted to admonish ourselves. Be realistic. Accept your limitations. Go for the safest, most practical, even if it uninspiring enough to make you cry. Neptune in Pisces also sextiles Pluto in Capricorn. Call upon the universe to help you with the life it has given you. “Universe, give me something I can feel. Gently carry me over the river and through the woods that I may overcome that which holds me down and emerge from the coffin of limitation.

Practicum

Write yourself a spell of liberation. Watch your words. Don’t chant that hex (for example, I don't want to lose my house). Cast that charm for a sweet, good life. “Make me an instrument of my peace. Let me be the medicine that heals. I lovingly bless my head and my heart, that I may make my life an art that becomes my ark to carry me to the glories of this world. Let my eyes see wonder and my ears hear soul songs. Let my nose smell the rose’s fragrance and my lips taste the savory and the sweet, while everything my hands touch turn out the golden life.”
