Full Moon | January 25, 2024 | 5 Leo 15’
“I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don’t notice it.” – Alice Walker, The Color Purple
On the astrological wheel that begins with red for Aries, purple is attributed to the sign of Aquarius. With Pluto’s entrance into the sign, we had better take notice.
Leo rules actors. Taraji P. Henson plays Shug Avery in the reimagined musical, The Color Purple. Shug's character is much like an Aquarian. She is independent and free-spirited and defies gender conventions. However, in the week leading up to this Full Moon, Taraji draws attention to the lower pay that black female actors receive in Hollywood. Her stance is that of victim. Moon in Leo contrasts Sun conjunct Pluto in Aquarius. Pluto in astrology represents power, the power of money and our customary association of power as corrupt and shadowy. We want to examine and understand our relationship to power.
The tone of the Full Moon is Taurus (keywords "I have" as in possessions and money). Jupiter in Taurus squares both the Sun and the Moon. Jupiter in Taurus can signify more money.
I sometimes refer to Jupiter, the “greater benefic,” as “bad Jupiter,” because of our tendency to propitiate or suck up to that which we see as holding the purse strings.
With the Sun-Pluto in Aquarius square Jupiter in Taurus, we have an opportunity to understand our collective relationship to those who have and therefore have the power. This could have started with compromising our wild dreams for the financial and emotional support of our family. Moon square Jupiter in Taurus could be that I sacrifice my honor and my own desires to please those who call the shots, or I have a conflict between what I want to express and my own insecurities about being enough, that could have been contributed to by judgement from others.
Jupiter sextile Saturn, represents expanding our willingness to depend on spirit as real. It also represents valuing our own worth.
Uranus is also in Taurus, and it has easy connections to our mental drive. If you can awaken to your own inner worth, you can also sense the way to go, including navigating your own perceived lack and finding a way out of the cave of your fears.
Pluto in Aquarius calls for a transcendence of the status quo. Some of this is discerning and tapping into the true source of power.
It is 60 years after the Civil Rights movement and racism still impedes. I imagine that the same will be true 60 years hence. What if we revolutionized our perceptions of power so that we are not capitulating to those we think we must please to receive our good?
Money is not the accomplisher, though it looks like it is. Our life with money depends on our feelings about it. Those we perceive to be powerful have powerful feelings about it. No amount of money is going to end our worry about money.
