New Moon | June 25, 2025 4 Cancer 8’

The current president of the United States presents a spiritual dilemma. How can I keep from being corrupted by hatred because of the hateful things he does? This is not an easy problem. “Being hated, don’t give way to hating,” Rudyard Kipling says.

Hatred for him comes up when I look at him. His speech and actions are extremely distasteful. He exudes cruel disregard for people. However, I believe that my visceral reaction must not go unchecked. I know that hatred for anyone is not healthy for me. Neither is it helpful.

I must enjoy peace. I must live in peace, even if war is raging unchecked. I cannot bring peace to myself or the world by reacting violently to disturbances. I cannot fear that without my contribution of rage the man would go unpunished. Vengeance is not mine. Punishment is not mine to dispense.

I am deliberately sharing this as my personal contemplation and not as instruction or advice to anyone else. This is what one person is thinking and feeling and wrestling with. I believe that the nature of the New Moon conjunct Jupiter in Cancer squaring Saturn and Neptune in Aries calls for this approach. Cancer is the personal and the interior. Cancer is where we feel vulnerable and protective of our loved ones, whether they are in our personal family or the human family. It is human nature to justify violence to protect our loved ones. Sometimes we hurt our loved ones to get them to see as we see, or to keep from doing harm to themselves.

Aries square Cancer asks us to check ourselves to not act from misguided emotions. Sun and Moon and Jupiter in Cancer calls for us to seek the higher way. It calls for us to have high hopes and to expect the best. Sometimes to serve the higher, we must be less reactive.

"If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you." – Gospel of Thomas

I consider that goodness and kindness are within me. If I let that goodness and kindness operate in the world, I will be saved from self-poisoning. If I do not bring forth goodness, it will serve no one and shrivel and shrink within me from lack of use.
