New Moon | Solar Eclipse |June 10, 2021 | 19 Gemini 47’
It never occurred to me until recently that Mercury in the chart might be an excellent indicator of one’s purpose. Feeling aimless, many people ask that the seer point out their life purpose. Mercury occurs to me as a key to answering this question because the New Moon Solar Eclipse is in Gemini, the sign ruled by Mercury. Qabalah says that the Great Work is the work of the Sun and Moon with the aid of Mercury. Mercury might aid by pointing out our direction.
It came to me as I was contemplating Key 1 (The Magician) of Tarot, which relates to all beginnings. I see the right hand holding a scepter pointed above while the left hand points below. The dictum for this stance is, “As above, so below.” The position also seems to say, “Here,” or “This.”
In my own birth chart, Mercury is in Aquarius in the 8th house of the occult and other people’s resources or joint resources. In the first half of my life, I earned a living by typing the words of others and keeping their records and files as a secretary. I always had a love of writing and used it mostly to record my life in journals. In later years, I wrote about astrology, seeking to share something of value with others as I interpreted the New and Full Moons. The use of astrology as a therapeutic tool has always interested me and I have used it this way to understand myself.
My Sun, the traditional indicator of purpose, is in my 9th of the higher mind and also indicates that I might be interested in philosophical matters and that I might teach and publish, which I have done, you might say, with the aid of Mercury in the 8th.
In our New Moon Solar Eclipse chart, Mercury is 20 degrees of Gemini conjunct the Sun and Moon at 19 degrees of Gemini, the sign of communication, which is the conveyance of ideas and feelings for the purpose of creating understanding between people so that we can get on the same page and work together for our mutual benefit. “Until we are all free, we are none of us free.” –Emma Lazarus
In a Gemini rising chart, Mercury in the first points to the self and reminds us that we must think responsibly. I have been thinking about the people down through the ages who have fallen into the clutches of those who would take their land, or take them from their land, and otherwise abridge their freedom. Rabbi Jill Jacobs informs us that “Today, slavery still permeates our society. An estimated twenty-one to twenty-seven million people in the world remain in slavery. These slaves harvest our chocolate, sew our clothes, pick our vegetables, and polish our nails. They receive little or no pay and are prevented from leaving through physical or emotional abuse. Slaves work in every industry and in every country, including the United States.”
Perhaps we can generalize that as we adjust our lives and stories to make use of the eclipses, we will think of our responsibilities to others as part of our purpose. Part of our purpose could be to think creatively, artistically, wisely and compassionately. Perhaps we can also realize that if we can think it, we can have it or be it. This includes thinking of a world where honor of and respect for others becomes part of our “thinking water.” A world where caring for others and about others is part of our dreams.
Practicum
Read "I Dream a World" by Langston Hughes.
Write a complementary poem, paint or draw a picture, or choreograph a dance or body prayer illustrating your dream.
Write out your dream on paper.
Fold the paper up and place it in a special box or container representing your dream turned over to the Universe for fulfillment. You can also put your paper in a Bible or a favorite book of inspiration. Ask for a definite sign that your dream has been acknowledged.
I DREAM A WORLD
Langston Hughes I dream a world where man
No other man will scorn,
Where love will bless the earth
And peace its paths adorn
I dream a world where all
Will know sweet freedom's way,
Where greed no longer saps the soul
Nor avarice blights our day.
A world I dream where black or white,
Whatever race you be,
Will share the bounties of the earth
And every man is free,
Where wretchedness will hang its head
And joy, like a pearl,
Attends the needs of all mankind-
Of such I dream, my world!
So why am i staying in the bed ? too much beckoning has shut me down
