The Age of Enlightenment

New Moon | May 22, 2020 | 2 Gemini 05’

Welcome to the age of enlightenment! What, wait. How the hell can we say that now? This looks like a great darkness we are in. Sister Deborah described it as, “We are exiled from our familiar moorings and traveling somewhere, but on the whole, we don't know where.”

To me, “exiled” conjures the story of the Fall. Eden, before things went haywire, looked like the scene in The Lovers key. The story of the fall strikes me as being about being a human and having a feeling that there is or was something better, some more idealistic, orderly, peaceful state. The story of the Fall is an attempt to explain what happened to us.

My understanding is that we live in Eden right now, but we do not know it because we are in hiding, covering our “reproductive” organs by blaming others for the shape of the world.

The Sun and Moon are in Gemini, which is attributed to The Lovers Key. This key shows

that there are three levels of consciousness, known, represented by the man, unknown, represented by the woman, and all-knowing, represented by the Angel. The keywords of Gemini are, “I think.” The three levels are in all individual human beings. For the most part, we live as if there is only “you and me and the world. There is no Angel. There is no God, except as vague somethings that we can’t talk to because we don’t know that they are there, or because we hide from them while we pretend to not have anything to do with whatever particular mess we are in.

I've been having a harder time with my mental disposition ever since the North Node moved backward from 0 degrees of Cancer to 29 degrees of Gemini. I am a little cranky sometimes, and unenthused. I knew this was possible in Gemini because air is volatile in that way. The Hebrew letter for this key is a sword, and swords are a type of weapon. The mind sets up conflict in the form of disagreement with other minds and the conclusion that those who do not agree are to be separated from your world. For the New Moon we have Sun, Moon, Venus, Mercury all in Gemini, along with the asteroid Vesta. That’s a lot of thinking. Somehow with all of the mental chatter that may be going on we have to find some quiet to allow for the higher mind to break through into our experience.

“The word enlightenment conjures up the idea of some superhuman accomplishment, and the ego likes to keep it that way. However, enlightenment is simply your natural state of felt oneness with Being. It is a state of connectedness with something immeasurable and indestructible, something that, almost paradoxically, is essentially you and yet is much greater than you. It is finding your true nature beyond name and form. The inability to feel this connectedness gives rise to the illusion of separation, from yourself and from the world around you. You then perceive yourself, consciously or unconsciously, as an isolated fragment. Fear arises, and conflict within and without becomes the norm. . . Enlightenment means rising above thought” – Eckhart Tolle

Let’s call the Lovers, not only a good representation of the inner meaning of Gemini, but a scene of enlightenment. Look how bright and central the Sun is. Look at the fiery hair of the Angel and the overall brightness of the scene. The serpent is present but does not disturb the scene.

PRACTICUM

Get into the habit of noticing when your mental disposition is harsh. You can tell by your irritated, unflattering and critical inner dialogue about others, yourself or a situation. Notice the tightness and the bad taste in your mouth. Ask yourself, if God (your Higher Self, Buddha, Jesus,The Source) would see things as you do. Imagine how God might see things. If you have a good, strong thought, write it down. See if you can recall your natural state of felt oneness with Being. See if you can get your mind to have thoughts of a brighter day.

Say something light and bright and encouraging to yourself each day or whenever you find yourself on a mental slippery slope.

If you can somehow manage to quiet your mind by trusting that everything is going to be better than all right, you might manage to enjoy this journey to parts unknown.
