Fire!

“Water, water, everywhere,” — Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Rime of the Ancient Mariner.

The fire raged, not much touched by water.

That is until the observers of the fires, stunned by the magnitude of loss, spring into helping mode, giving empathy, time, shelter, and money.

I am struck by the absence of fire signs in this chart. The only fire happens to be Chiron, the “Wounded Healer.” The wounded healer, though hurt, realizes they can still help. It makes a hard angle to the Sun opposing the Moon. Chiron has a pivotal role. Noticeable also is the presence of Mars, retrograde in Cancer conjunct the Moon. We could read this as destroying structures. Over 120,000 structures, homes, and businesses, have been lost in the two largest fires. Structures are Sun in Capricorn and the Sun is conjunct Pluto, also known as the destroyer and is the representative of power, especially the “powers that be”. However, when the fire started, Moon was in Aries and Mercury in Sagittarius.

What does this mean for us at this Full Moon? The fires are barely contained and 87,000 people are facing new evacuation orders. Perhaps this Full Moon will compel us to feel for those who are suffering most. Perhaps it means that we must guard our own emotions against being emotionally inflammatory. This would take on the form of blame.

The Power of Pluto I don’t know how this has escaped me my whole life in symbolism, but recently I read that the mythological symbol of power has been personified as Pluto, who took the innocent Persephone into the Underworld after kidnapping her from her mother, Ceres, a symbol of Nature, also has a mythology where he was depicted as “both a stern ruler and a loving husband to Persephone” and a “God of wealth”. -- Wikipedia

It made me think I could tweak my own representation of Pluto in my writings and in my own life, to help imagine differently and have different outcomes.

I suggested a new Pluto at the New Moon, based on the Tarot Key that depicts a scene of resurrection. Certainly, we know that we want people to be able to rebuild, reconstruct, and re-imagine their lives from the ashes. Certainly, we know that in these kinds of circumstances, people often have profound spiritual awakenings and realizations.

I’m voting for a new Pluto, a new awakening of a collective, harmonious sense of power, and the power of that, the power of the masses to become more than “As idle as a painted ship upon a painted ocean.” – Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Rime of the Ancient Mariner.
