Brought to You by Thinking

New Moon
August 20, 2009

“By thinking the thing is brought to you. By action you receive it.”
— Wallace Wattles.

It was 2007 or so and I had just heard that there was a possibility that the Los Angeles rent control laws might be abolished. Although a disciple of keeping my mind right, I still had a moment of worry. The worry was “realistic.” For the past five years or so the income from my day job had been going up one or two percent. Rent control keeps my rent increase limited to 5%. Even with rent control, my income was not going up even one-half the rent increase.

As I’ve taught myself to, I stopped the worry before it took over by reminding myself two things: One, I had to visualize the proposition failing, with faith. Two, I had to get myself in a position where I was always above the cost of living. I made my mind up.

I have learned that even as a party of one, it is important to make up my mind about how I want things go and that it matters that I stick to it. That was work.

The proposition failed. However, even if it hadn’t, my work would still have been to keep my eye on the prize, especially as I am assailed by talk of the bad economy. I am exposed to others’ faith in a bad economy even if I don’t turn on the radio or TV. People want me to affirm the dull reality of this economy with them. They speak to me with a nod (unconsciously) in order to get a robotic nod from me in return.

Hard not to nod. Hard not to nod when you start hearing the facts and figures about people being laid off and such. Hard not to nod when you are furloughed (day/s off without pay), or fired or chased by creditors.

Lucky for me, I steep my tea in a reality beyond the gloomy economic forecasts. I still take action (or wait according to Wisdom) in allegiance to my vision of having an unlimited income. It is a process that begins with God first. If you are the spiritual apex of your life, God first means that you can’t pay any attention to anything that says you should lower your expectations for a rich life that you take pleasure in. Been there and done that with the ”I can’t.” That is not my affirmation. Don’t let it be yours.

It was inspiring for me to attend a Mary Kay seminar in Dallas Texas and watch women earn pink Cadillacs and Buicks and quitting (or long ago quit) their day jobs by the droves, in this economy. It means so much to hear women say. I was poor, but now I found the means to orient my life, my mind and my service, to the glory of God/Good.

I recall looking at the proofs for my book, Making What Your Means Can’t Buy, (http://visioncarriers.com/press.html) and becoming disturbed by the picture of a spirit guide created by my sister Deborah of Madam C. J. Walker, the first female millionaire in the United States—a Black woman. There she was in her Empress green gown, a fistful of cash in her right hand and a bag of cash in her left. I was afraid that it put an erroneous emphasis on cash, since the basis of the book is that we can get what we want whether we have the cash or not. Guidance mode was on, though, and Madam C. J. (inventor of the straightening comb) who made her money in hair products for Black women) turned out to be an appropriate clue that I was right to affirm my decision to have an unlimited income. To still my concern, Intuition told me that Madam C. J. was about the grasp of the principles behind making money—something that still needed strengthening in me.

Growth is action receiving the benefits of a thought. Growth takes place in “instability.” Conditions change moment by moment, day by day when you are growing. Your new expectations meet your old expectations: those expectations you were born into in some cases and those that are the results of catastrophic events that hold you like an electrified gate. When the growth requires awareness, you have to confront the temptation of doubt and the old ideas holding on, telling you that you can go no further. Quitting or refusing to try is the result of the desire to break the tension of the “instability” of growth that pushes a little or a lot against its previous maximums every day.

Mars, the planet of action, is presently at 26 degrees of Gemini. The predominant action is about making up your mind in the climate of high uncertainty (visible) and high opportunity (invisible). When we are uncertain and fearful, we crave “stability,” the certainty of the known, even if we are unhappy with it. But as one of my mentors recently said, “Everything you want is outside of your comfort zone.” That succinctly describes this grand cross we have in mutable signs with the exception of Pluto in early degrees of Capricorn. Mars in Gemini is square Saturn and Mercury in Virgo. Saturn suggests that we might worry, and that we face hard facts. Or it suggests a disciplined mind that will choose to think only in the direction of possibility, not impossibility, and will master these changing times, where the opportunity to win is actually bigger than the possibility of losing. Mars opposed Pluto says you can fruitlessly fight outside powers, or come to recognize the power you have within yourself if you will not be afraid of it.

My worry about the money in Madame C. J.’s hands reflects my own ambiguity about money and power, an ambiguity that we share whenever we are worried that we might look greedy, or that we simply can’t make money for ourselves or have any control over it. If I buy into the safety of my limitations, I am buying into the negative side of Mars square Saturn, and it is going to make me circumscribe my actions and fear all efforts will come to naught. On the Mars square Uranus side of things, I want to guard against being erratic or doing anything foolish that I might regret.

But Uranus in Pisces counsels, “Wait with patience on me, the Lord, and in my appointed time will I make clear what now is dark, and show before thee, straight and true, a path of safety in the very place where now an abyss of terror seems to open at thy feet.” (Book of Tokens)

There is always another step possible. There is always a way. Don’t dwell on what you don’t want. Don’t dwell on negative appearances. Dwell on possibility. Say, “I’m more than a conqueror. I am a victor! I take action to receive the gifts faithful thinking brings to me.
