New Moon

I was pondering the myth in which Mother, Daughter, and Pluto (God of the underworld) are the main characters. The story goes that Pluto abducted the daughter, rising out of the underworld to scoop her into his chariot and under the earth where she is raped. Her mother begins a long process of grieving.
As I mull, I look at “The Cube of Space” (according to The Book of Formation, the earliest existing book on Jewish esotericism, the manifested universe is represented as a cube). I note Pluto’s assignment in the Cube as a line of force running through the Center of the Cube from North to South. Mother, represented by the Moon, is assigned to the place of below and is the foundation upon which the Cube rests. Pluto is above the mother at the center. I am curious about these assignments, because in relationship to the Mother, Pluto is above, not below. Pluto has the function of calling people to a higher state up from below, symbolized in Tarot by Gabriel blowing his trumpet, and the dead rising out of their coffins.
A surprising thought occurs to me. What if Pluto got a bad rap? What if, like a game of telephone, the story has been distorted and misinterpreted until what we all hear and pass on is not the way it is at all? What if the Daughter was not abducted into the underworld, but taken up and into the central inner world called “the-place-which-is-not” where life is really controlled and created, despite Mother’s wish to keep her daughter protected by doing all her thinking for her? What if she was released from the coffin of the “that’s just the way it is” habit of thinking and empowered with the ability to think thoughts infused with the substance of the Higher Mind, God, Good, thoughts?
What if this story symbolizes: 1) Humanity as the daughter, 2) Moon as the mind conditioned by habit where we react without thinking, and 3) Pluto representing the realization of the power that each of us has if we operate our lives from the center where we can hear “the call” or “the voice” for ourselves instead of being persuaded that we need others to do our thinking for us.
Pluto implies a bad guy with a devilish undertone. Not surprisingly, Pluto is associated with power in the chart. There is the saying that absolute power corrupts absolutely, and so some of us want no parts of that power. We would rather do as we are told than wield power.
Many of us have a deep-seated conditioned belief that the wealthy are evil. We cannot imagine amassing wealth without becoming ruthless and dehumanized, although we secretly hope that some day something we do catches on and we getuy noticed, or we hit the lottery or otherwise “catch” the wealth we dare not focus on or admit we want.
In astrology the Higher Mind (God-Mind) is represented by the three higher octave planets, all assigned to the central axis of the Cube of Space. Pluto is a line of force that connects the constructive/destructive force of Mars with the Life-giving force of the Sun. What if the daughter was not abducted, not taken away by the bad man, but awakened to the realization that she could create the life she wanted instead of the life that’s “just the way it is”?
The common speech about “the economy” tells us life is going to get tougher. The common speech maintains that if you have a position, don’t dare try for something else or something more, even if you are choked, depressed, suffering and unproductive. Hold on. Don’t let go. Don’t change. Be grateful. There’s nothing out there. If you already lost your job, well, good luck, but there’s not much hope. How are you going to find a job that will not only pay you in a way that makes up for income lost, but will enable you to live the life you have worked so hard to have?
The “choiceless” climate gets on my nerves. Ageless Wisdom counsels that you are not to get caught up in the appearances. Do not base your choices on a dim and limited view. Have a bright vision in your mind. Feed it. Nurture it. Stick with it. Feel it energize your mind. See how it causes you to be alert for opportunity, not braced for catastrophe.
This New Moon Solar Eclipse is asking us to adjust our feelings about the financial fiasco. Do not be subject to the common speech about the economy. Do not be the disempowered, unmotivated, pessimistic daughter who lets the news do her thinking for her. Know that something infinitely and unalterably good has a hand in our lives. Hold on to that. Keep your eye on the prize. Let your vision and instinct that life is a gift be your informer. Rise above the clouds of the doom and gloom forecasts. Rise above the belief that there is nothing for you to do to be empowered at this time. “From the exhaustless riches of its limitless substance, I draw all things needful, both spiritual and material.” Keep saying that. I will meet you at the center of the cube of space, in the field beyond limitation, and we shall make concrete plans for victory. Be not afraid.

As usual you took us to the Higher Ground with your words of wisdom. My teacher, Isabel Hickey explained to us that Pluto is the planet of transformation or degeneration depending on how we choose to use it. The powerful New Moon in Cancer eclipse can be used as a wonderful opportunity to transform our emotional energies, or to wallow in self pity. Again…the choice is ours. Thank you for what you do. I enjoy reading your messages because they provide good information that is helpful and healing. Love & Light, Ayesha
I agree with Ayesha that your words of wisdom take us to higher ground. I love hearing Isabel Hickey’s name! Her book, Astrology: A Cosmic Science is still the one I recommend most to people interested in studying astrology.
Most of my defining life lessons are marked by Pluto. Many of my life lessons involve being honest about and owning my own power. Thank you, dear seer! Thank you!
Thanks Inez for your great insight. It’s so important that we create our own reality and world not as others conceive it but, as declared by the higher power.
May you continue to be blessed with all that you need to accomplish your life’s goals.
