See it. Say it. Create it.

All that we are is the result of what we have thought. – Abraham Lincoln

What can one person do?

Visualize and have faith. Watch your words very carefully. Don’t say what you don’t want. Don’t want gas prices to rise? Don’t say that they will. Say higher and prices will be higher. Say lower and prices will be lower. Think lower and they will be lower.

Sounds too simple? Try it. Recently appalled to see the price of gas go to $4.69, I flashed on $5.00, remembering when “they” said it was going to go to $3.00. $5.00 flashed, and I said, “No way.” I’m not going to see that. I’m not going to expect that. The next day I heard about a young woman who created a website called, “Kiss my gass.” That’s the spirit, I thought. Driving by the pump today, I saw the price at $4.53. Better. But I’m not accepting $4.53 either. I’m only going to be happy with a price that’s fair, whatever that is, and I’ll know it when I see it. I want to see headlines that say something like, “Unprecedented Rollback In Gas Prices: Our Economy Will Never Be the Same as the Middle Class Finds Its Nerve and Sinew.”

You might say to me, Inez, “How is it that you think you have any say?” I do. And so do you. We are contributing thinkers. “All that we are is the result of what we have thought.” As long as we think there is nothing we can do but pay, we will pay.

Don’t be conditioned to sheepishly believe that life has to cost what it costs. Don’t be persuaded that you are shrinking. Let it be that you are thinking and creating a world friendlier to yourself and your wallet. If it is good for you and true for you, it will be good for everyone.

I have been pondering how we could stand up to some of the injustices we experience that makes life harsh for us. I was especially interested in what, if anything, we could do without fighting. Stand, be brave, challenge, dare, yes. Scream and holler and picket—not so much.

The answer came with the words, “You can visualize, and have faith.” Vision is a simple thing. It doesn’t require violence or noise. Without a vision, the people perish, Psalm 29:18 says. Without a vision, the middle class shrinks. Without a vision nothing is affordable. Health is not affordable. Shelter is not affordable. Food is not affordable.

So let’s envision what we want. Envision the middle class swelling with pride, power, and influence without resorting to violent rhetoric or movement. Envision what will happen if you and all your friends stop agreeing that things are going to get worse. Don’t let yourself say anything that acquiesces to things getting tougher. Say it. Create it. See and say what you want only. Be completely silent on the rest.

One Response to “See it. Say it. Create it.”
